The silence! It's killing me!!

I have figured out how I can be more productive, and its simplicity boggles me.

As I work in class and everyone's all intense and concentrating, the silence is deafening. After a time of working away, it gets to me to such an extent that I get up, go visit one of the neighbours to see where they are and how they're doing, make some small chat, and return to work. It's like it's so quiet, you have to break it, or you just begin to think everyone is weird and scary.

I thought, why isn't anyone else bothered?

A quick survey of the room revealed most were plugged in--into a laptop, or some kind of musical device. Not to be anti-social, but it dawned on me how much more I might be able to focus and accomplish if I didn't take these random breaks. My soul is a parched, toneless wasteland that needs some noise. :(

But blast, I don't have a laptop yet. I could bring a CD player, but that's so yesterday (actually, I just don't want to bring a bunch of CDs that all amount to ~1 hour of tunes at best, it's just clunky and silly). Part of the problem is that this noiselessness makes me drowsy, particularly if I haven't had much sleep, which is of course pretty common. >_<

Sigh. It's not like I need the ipod that everyone seems to have--don't think I could fill up half of 1 GB, frankly. >_> But man, what'd I do for just...I dunno, 50 songs to get me through the day?

It really is the little things that count, I suppose.

On a unrelated note, I'm glad to see this blog so busy! :)

Haha... when I first read this post, I thought it was Nyx posting about her accounting/business classes. I had the image of hundreds and hundred of accounts/business students crunching numbers all at the same time...

But ya... I totally know what you mean, Natrix. But for me, sometimes absolute silence helps me to focus and it's an awesome thing to have... but other times, you gotta make some noise!

On the music note, I used to be a person that would never carry around my CD player with me mainly because I never had much music to listen to anyway. But after getting a very shiny and tiny MP3 player for Christmas, I never go anywhere without it. Btw, 1GB = about 295 songs.... it varies with song size and format....

On another note... I officially hate Futureshop, but I'll post later about that....

Hope you have a good day!

IPODS ARE THE DEVIL IN WHITE. Really, they're overpriced and overrated. And whenever something goes wrong, you "fix" it by slamming it against your table. Or by dropping it on the floor--ha! Don't give in to Apple!

There are tons of better brands out there...50 songs is like 200MB.

This is completely, totally unrelated to your post, but have you ever heard of Odysseus as being related to Sisyphus? And if so, any sort of story/myth it was mentioned in? (or was it just like, in passing, or in discussion of family trees?).

^Alls you gots to do is type "odysseus sisyphus" in Google and it'll spew off tons of sites claiming Sisyphus = Odysseus's father.

But that takes all the fun out of asking Natrix :P

I've heard of it previous to asking the question, I'm just curious if it's referenced anywhere. I will Google eventually, lol, but I must needs pester Natrix first.

Well, I was going to buy one made by Rio, but they were all sold out at Future Shop, and no other place sold them. *Pokes Kris...Did you really need 2? :(*

So I ended up buying a 512MB one from Creative Zen. It's small, cheap, and reliable, and that's what I was looking for anyway. Creative also makes computer parts, and an MP3 player is basically a mini-hard drive anyway, so it's hard for them to screw it up.

So yeah, keep in mind that you can transfer any type of file to your MP3 player as storage--just don't try to play them. Most come with recording abilities, so you can record lectures or random funny moments.

They're also coming out with MP3 & video players, so it also depends on what your wants are. Just don't choose Apple! Or Samsung!

Le gasp! Well, in the Odyssey he's related to Laertes (I hope I spelled that right). Someday, Natrix, I hope you read it =D It's a very good story (even if there are a few tedius parts, and you want to slap Dawn and her rosy fingers by the end).

Oh oh oh! I thought of something that can relate to your post, lol. If/when you do come up with something to satisfy your music cravings, I'd be more than happy to give you some Mediaeval Baebes music to try out.

Just a thought =D

I concur with whoever said that ipods are the devil, but their commercials are oh so colorful. Get something cheap, or better yet, get some buddy to go to Hong Kong, and I'm sure you have tons, to get you one, they definetly have the video mp3, actually I think they're call mp4's now, but whatever. Or don't get one. That's actually my real recommendation. Because it'll ruin your ears, and you'll be deaf before your time Natrix, and we'll all have to holler into your older decrepit ears. Just listen to the music in your head. That's what I do. Sometimes it's soundtrack battle music, sometimes it's really really annoying songs from New Kids in the Block. Or you could defy me out of spite. If so, then go forth and be deaf.
